Obituary of Edward William Klingener, Sr.
Edward William Klingener, Sr. of Point Pleasant, NJ, formerly of Byram Twp. and Boonton, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at the age of 79.
Ed was born in May of 1944 in Morristown, NJ to Carl and Victoria (Kohut) Klingener. He was raised in Boonton and attended Boonton schools and County College of Morris. Ed joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 and served active duty until 1965, when he transferred into the Reserves. He began his law enforcement career with the Morris County Park Police, becoming the first Mounted Unit member. He joined the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and spent most of his time in the Narcotics Unit – Ed had one of the largest marijuana seizures on record in the State of New Jersey. Two and a quarter tons were confiscated and he received an award from the Township of Denville for the seizure and arrest.
In his spare time, Ed enjoyed being part of the Tri-County Motorcycle Club, the Blue Knights Chapter IX, and a member of the VFW in Boonton and Brick Twp. He loved boating, snowmobiling and anything fast. Once he retired, he was able to spend more time with his family.
Edward was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Carl. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia-Ann Cozzarelli-Klingener; his sons, Bret Klingener and Edward W. Klingener Jr.; his daughters, Rhonda Kresge, Dawn Klingener and Catherine Klingener; and his brother, Mark Klingener. He will be remembered by his grandchildren, Cory and Hunter Klingener; John Kresge, Jr.; Chrissy Chapman; Savanna House; Devon and Kyra Klingener; and Ryan and Walter Keiper; as well as several great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Ed was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
