1952-2020
Cathy E. Mahoney, 67, of Montville, NJ, died Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at home with her family after a courageous year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.
A graduate of Cedar Grove High School, and the University of Delaware, Cathy grew-up in Cedar Grove, NJ.
Cathy was a CPA who spent 9 years at KPMG (Peat Marwick) in NJ. She later worked for AT&T.
A 35-year resident of Montville, NJ, Cathy was an active community organizer. She served as a Morris County Poll Worker for more than a decade; was President and Treasurer of the Valhalla Civic Association; served as a Girl Scout Leader to Troops 337 and 580 (originators of Operation Cookie); coordinated the Lake Valhalla Club swim team; and co-chaired the Morris County Park Commission's Turkey Mountain Square Yard Sale; which preserved nearly half of the Pyramid Mountain Park's 1,700 acres of open space.
More recently she volunteered at a woman's clinic, working to ensure women's health initiatives.
When not traveling, Cathy split her time between her Lake Valhalla home and her cherished Green Pond lake house.
She was a skilled gardener, adventurous hiker, dedicated yoga participant, enthusiastic theatergoer, artist, and avid reader, who belonged to several book clubs.
Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and daughter. Cathy was also a beloved friend to many.
Born June 24, 1952, Cathy is predeceased by her father and mother, Anthony and Nancy Fedewitz.
Cathy is survived by her husband of 36 years, Kevin Mahoney; son J. Brian Mahoney and his wife Amy, of Manhattan; daughters Christine Mahoney of Dublin, Ireland, and Ellyn Mahoney, also of Manhattan. Cathy is also survived by two granddaughters, Mia and Mackenzie Mahoney; her brother Jim Fedewitz and his wife Joy, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Richard and Jamie Mahoney and Jim and Mary Mahoney; and nieces and nephews: Laura and Ryan Fedewitz; and Connor, Jessica, Justin, and Kaylin Mahoney.
Due to the COVID-19 quarantine, burial services at Codey & Mackey Funeral Home in Boonton, NJ, will be private. A memorial service will be held later in the year. Notes of condolence and tributes may be posted at www.codeymackeyfh.com.
