Obituary of Walter J. Barrett

Walter J. Barrett, a Korean Veteran and Educator, passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2018.  He was a lifelong resident of Boonton, NJ, recently of Cedar Crest.  He was 87 years old.

Born in Morristown, NJ to John and Helen (Hayden) Barrett.  Walter attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School and graduated from both John Hill School and Boonton H.S.  He attended NJ State College in Newark for 3 years and then enlisted in the US Navy where he served from 1951-1955.  In the Navy he was instrumental in teaching Navy Pilots on flight simulators.  Upon his return Walter graduated from NJ State College in 1956.

Mr. Barrett taught industrial arts and drafting at Denville M.S. from 1956 – 1968 and then Madison H.S., until his retirement in 1985.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth and loving daughter, Katherine Castano.

Visitation will be held at the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Avenue, Boonton, NJ on Sunday, August 12th from 2-4 pm.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, 910 Birch Street, Boonton, NJ on Monday, August 13th at 11:00 am.  The interment will be private. To extend condolences or share a memory, please visit codeymackeyfh.com.
