Joseph Cali, 90, of Montville, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13, 2015, at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover, NJ. Relatives and friends will visit at the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Avenue, Boonton, NJ 07005 on Friday, July 17th from 4 – 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Pius X R.C. Church, 24 Changebridge Road, Montville on Saturday, July 18th at 9:30 am. Born in Jersey City, NJ to his parents, Alfonso and Rose, Joe lived in Jersey City before moving to Montville in 1976. Joe went to work at the age of 16. He then proudly served as a Corporal in the US Army Air Corp during World War II. After being honorably discharged he went to work at Motor Freight in Jersey City for 38 years, retiring as a Hi-Lo Supervisor in 1982; he also worked for 44 years at the Jersey City Free Public Library driving the Bookmobile and delivering to the 9 outstanding branches, retiring in 2011. Mr. Cali was a longtime member of the AFSCME, Local 2265, where he was President for 10 years. Surviving are his beloved wife, Phyllis "Fay" (Amato); a devoted son, Richard; loving sister Mary Charner; cherished grandchildren, Lauren Svach and Michael Cali; adored great granddaughter, Shayna Svach; dear sister-in-law Frances Simplot and brothers-in-law, Ralph and Frank Amato; also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Philip Cali. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association, would be appreciated.
