Rev. Jack H. Thorn, of Morris Plains, NJ, formerly of Boonton, NJ, departed this life on Sunday, April 7, 2013 in St. Clare's Hospital, Denville, NJ with his family at his side. He was 83 years old. Jack Thorn was born March 19, 1930 in Beacon, NY to Helen and Walter Thorn. Jack was an Episcopal priest, ordained in 1955. Much of his ministry was at St. John's Episcopal Church, Boonton, NJ where he served as Rector from 1963-1995. Afterwards he remained active in ministry at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Morris Plains, NJ and as long-term Supply Priest at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in North Arlington, NJ. He was a gentle, kind and generous man of God, loved dearly by his parishioners, friends and family, He was predeceased by his beloved wife Charlotte Hanford Thorn, a son Peter Thorn, a sister Charlotte Cornyea and brother Donald Thorn; also many close friends, including Maryann Dawson. Surviving are his devoted children John (Diana) Thorn of Portland, PA, Lisa (Michael Hanna) Thorn, MD of Averill Park, NY and Joanne Thorn of Clinton, NJ; loving daughter in law Kari Thorn of Andover, NJ; a dear sister Shirley Lucas and brother Gordon Thorn; 7 wonderful granddaughters Jessica (Stephen) Hoffman of Philadelphia, PA, Andrea (Jason) Ballenger of Memphis, TN, Hillary (Calvin) Brue of St. Paul, MN, Kelly Thorn of Brooklyn, NY, Allison Thorn of Andover, NJ and Abigail and Erin Hanna of Averill Park, NY. Jack also leaves behind his dear friend Hugo Almendares and Mittens his cat. The family would like to thank Dr. Chapelle, Dr. Wall, Dr. Huang, and the excellent nursing staff on PCU 2 at St. Clare's Hospital for their compassionate care. Parishioners, relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Ave., Boonton, NJ on Friday, April 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM and at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 51 Mountain Way, Morris Plains, NJ on Saturday, April 13 from 12 - 2:30 PM followed by the Burial Office with Holy Eucharist, Bishop Mark Beckwith, presiding.
