Please share a memory of Harold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP---Harold R. Dorer died Sunday, June 10, 2012 at St. Clare's Hospital, Denville following a courageous battle with lymphoma. He was 89. Born in Irvington, he lived in the Lake Valhalla section of Montville since 1961. Mr. Dorer was a pension administrator with ITT Corp., New York, NY for 24 years before retiring in 1985. He served proudly with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater and following the war received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Miami of Ohio University in 1950. He was an avid golf and tennis player, playing well into his 80's and following his first battle with cancer. In addition to Montville, he maintained homes in Vermont and then later in the Adirondacks at Loon Lake, where he enjoyed skiing (snow and water) and boating with his children and beloved grandchildren. A NY Yankee lover, he spent many nights in his recliner falling asleep to the Yankee games on TV. He also attended as many of his grandchildren's sporting events as time would allow. One of the special things he did for his grandchildren was to write poems to them in their birthday cards-something that will be missed by all of them. Hal was a true gentleman and had a deep and abiding affection for his wife and family. He is survived by his "bride" and soul mate of 55 years, Dolores (nee Engelke), two sons, David A. and Alan H. both of Boonton Township; two daughters Pamela M. Smith of Cary, NC and Carolanne Bost of Pfafftown, NC; a sister, Lillian Dorer of Rock Hill, SC and his eight cherished grandchildren. Memorial services for Hal will be held at Jacksonville Chapel as noted above. Contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Processing Center, 6725 Lyons Ave., P.O. Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057
