Margie was more than a friend to Jane and me for the past seven decades. She had a smile and a happy word whenever it would serve to lighten our days. She was the instigator and travel guide for the many trips we made together: England, Scotland, Germany the coast of Maine in a three masted schooner and the numerous explorations of North Carolina ln the faithful Chrysler. She and Hal were a large part of our lives. Thank you Margie for being you.

Our friendship with Margie spans a period of 80 years from grammar school, high school, college years, all the way to the present. During the college years, unsuccessful attempts were made on our part to encourage Ev's fraternity brother and roommate Hal, to meet Margie. However, they did finally meet at our engagement party and eventually were married 6 months after we were! They were the honor attendants at our wedding and later became Godparents to our first child. We had a close friendship, and when still living in NJ, we visited often. We loved spending Saturday nights together watching the Johnny Carson Show. After leaving NJ in 1973 for Western New York, Georgia and eventual retirement to North Carolina, we continued our friendship through frequent phone calls and visits whenever we traveled North. Due to her declining health, Margie's last few years were difficult, but we kept in touch with frequent phone calls, chatting about our families and the college friends we still were in touch with. She was always so appreciative of the calls. She will be missed. Marilyn and Ev Hughes Durham, NC
