Obituary of Gale Gilabert

Please share a memory of Gale to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gale Gilabert, 83, of Boonton Township, NJ, formerly of Franklin Lakes, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 10, 2023.

Born in November 1939 to Walter and Elma (Filera) Andres, Gale grew up in Paterson, NJ and graduated from East Side High School. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at William Paterson University. Gale was a teacher in the Hawthorne and Ramsey school districts.

In her spare time, she was a huge tennis fan. Gale was an avid player and enjoyed watching matches in person and on television. She loved traveling and went to countries throughout Europe, especially the northern part of Italy, and celebrated many sunsets on the beach in Siesta Key, FL.

Gale was an active member of the Rockaway Valley United Methodist Church in Boonton Township. But her joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. Gale dedicated many years to loving and caring for them with her gentle, kind spirit, and wonderful, home-baked treats.

Please join her family on Thursday, August 17th at Codey & Mackey Funeral Home of Boonton, with visitation from 2:00 - 4:00pm and 7:00 - 9:00pm. Interment will be private.

Left behind to cherish their wonderful memories are her beloved husband of 63 years, Frank Gilabert; her daughters, Diane Gilabert and her husband, Kevin Hopkins; and Nancy Verga and her husband, John; her grandchildren, Frank Verga and his wife, Nichole; Joseph Verga, Marie Verga and Natalie Verga; her brother, Walter Andres and his wife, Virginia; and many friends. Gale was predeceased by her daughter, Michele Gilabert, in 2008.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in her memory to the Visiting Nurse Association of Northern NJ Foundation.
