CECIL C. STICHWEH

DEC. 16, 1939 – MARCH 5, 2023

Cecil C. Stichweh of Boonton passed away, peacefully, on Sunday March 5th after a short illness. He was 83. Cecil lived his entire life in the town he loved, in the same house he was raised as a young boy. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 53 years and love of his life, Cheryl Stichweh (nee Miller), parents, Cecil and Lillian (nee Tintle), his brother, Charles Markle, and sisters Elizabeth Helstoski (nee Markle) and Mary Lou DesChamps (nee Stichweh). He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brian C. Stichweh and Alicia L. Stichweh (nee Gennaro), his grandson, Zachary, whom he loved more than anything in the world, his niece, Paulette Tartaglia (nee DesChamps), and his best friend Alvin Michinski, whom he loved like a brother.

Cecil proudly co-owned and worked at Boonton Auto Parts up until his passing, an incredible tenure of service that spanned nearly 70 years. Cecil’s work ethic was rock-steady and unparalleled and served as a blueprint for his co-workers. His commitment to his customers and the community formed the backbone and culture of the company. Always fun-loving and humble, he was synonymous with Boonton Auto Parts. He left an indelible mark on anyone that had the honor of working with him. He had the joy and privilege of working with many wonderful people, especially his brother, Charles, his partner, Christopher Kline, and his son, Brian, who will spend every day trying to live up to the lofty standards he set. Boonton Auto Parts is a thriving business that has been servicing the town of Boonton and the surrounding areas for over 100 years, and Cecil’s influence and memory will live on.

Cecil was a member of St. John’s Masonic Lodge and served as a Past Master in 1970, enjoyed decades of playing in Jerry’s AC Friday Night Golf League at the Knoll East Country Club, and bowling in the Automotive League at Boonton Lanes with his friends and co-workers back in the 1960s. Baseball was always important to Cecil and his family. He was a stand-out player as a boy, was one of the winningest coaches in Tri-Town Little League history in the 1980s, and in later years beamed with pride watching his grandson, Zach, continue in the family tradition of dominance on the pitcher’s mound. He will undoubtedly watch over him as he takes the mound for the University of Maryland Terrapins next spring and give opposing hitters his infamous “horns” as they step up to the plate against him. He was a lifelong New York Giants season ticket holder who enjoyed the trip of a life time to Arizona with his son in 2008 to watch the Giants upset the 18-0 New England Patriots in the greatest Super Bowl ever played.

But most of all, Cecil was a family man, committed to spending as much time as possible with Cheryl, Brian, Alicia, Zachary, and his beloved dog, Jeter. He was present in their lives, never missed events, and set the best example possible as to what the definition of a husband, father, and grandfather should be. He enjoyed many, many vacations to Disney World, as well as a wonderful European Viking riverboat cruise down the Rhine River with Cheryl. His passing has left a hole in the heart of everyone who loved him, but they will undoubtedly keep his memory alive and look upon his time spent with them as a blessing.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 11th from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Ave., Boonton.
