Obituary of Robert Alan Westenberger
Robert Alan Westenberger, age 65, of Lake Hopatcong NJ was called home to his Lord on Tuesday December 6, 2022, after a short battle with kidney disease. He died peacefully at home with his beloved new pup Bailey.
Born in Denville NJ in January 1957 to Lois Westenberger (nee Tucker) and the late George Westenberger Jr., Robbie lived most of his life in Boonton and Boonton Township. He graduated from Boonton High School in 1975 and in 1977 earned his associate degree in Science from County College of Morris.
He was a volunteer fireman starting in 1980 for the Boonton Township Fire Department and honorably served as their Chief from 1993-1996.
Work was very important to Robbie, and to his work family he was known as Bob. He began his career in healthcare facilities construction and oversight starting with St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville before moving to Atlantic Health System at Morristown Memorial. He exceled by earning his Class 1 inspector license in each of the disciplines of building, electrical, fire, and plumbing. At the time of his passing, he was proudly employed by Vernon Township serving as the Construction Official while performing inspections and additionally serving the Borough of Wharton as the Fire Sub Code Official.
Aside from Robbie’s love of work, he loved the Lord and his large family. He helped many with their home projects, a true DIY type.
Robbie is survived by three children: son Alan (Claire) of California, daughter Diana (Joe) La Fiura of Morristown, son Matthew of Boonton Township and two grandchildren Emmie and Harry. Additionally, he is survived by his mother Lois; his siblings George (Barbara), Susan, John, Karen, Krissie, Shelly (Pete) Errante and predeceased by brother Eric and surviving wife Cindy along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday December 12th from 4-7pm at Codey and Mackey Funeral Home of Boonton. A Memorial Service will be held at The Chapel in Lincoln Park on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital in Robbie’s memory.
