Obituary of Dorothy L. Markle

Dorothy L. Markle (nee Metz) of Boonton Township, NJ passed away on Monday, January 10th, 2022. She was 97.

Dorothy was born and raised in Dover, NJ before moving to Boonton Township in 1955. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles Markle, in 1996; by her parents, Frederick and Lottie Metz; and her siblings, Marion Nanstiel; Gladys Orchard; Harold Metz and Gloria Miller. Dorothy is survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law/niece, Cecil and Cheryl Stichweh; seven additional nieces; one nephew; numerous great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews and great-great great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the children and grandchildren of her long-time friend, Mildred Kline, who affectionately considered Dorothy their aunt.

Dorothy worked for many years prior to her marriage at McGregor's Clothing Manufacturing Company in Dover. She was the trumpet player in the Debonaires, an all-girl band during World War II and she occasionally performed with the Henry Shapiro Orchestra. Dorothy was a long standing member of the First United Methodist Church in Dover.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 15th from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Ave., Boonton. Interment will be private. The family requests that guests wear masks to the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dorothy to the First United Methodist Church, 41 E. Blackwell St., Dover, NJ 07801 or to an animal rescue charity of your choice.
