Obituary of Leigh Gorman, Sr.
Leigh Gorman, Sr., 79, of Flanders, NJ, formerly of Boonton, NJ, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22, 2018. He leaves behind a family and friends with a legacy of gratitude.
Leigh was born and raised in Boonton, NJ. He was the son of the late Charles and Anne (Williams) Gorman. He was a stellar athlete and graduate of Boonton High School class of ’57.
Leigh was the first 1000-point scorer in the history of Morris County Basketball; he was also a standout in football and track and was a star baseball player who was drafted by and played in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization.
Mr. Gorman proudly served in the United States Army Reserve.
He met and married his wife, the late Dagmar (Birch) at Boonton High School and together they raised their three children in Flanders, NJ. They were married 48 years before her passing in 2010.
Leigh was an electrician with the IBEW, Local 102 in Parsippany before he retired in 2001.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Avenue, Boonton, NJ on Thursday, November 29th from 4-8 pm. Services celebrating Leigh’s Life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Boonton, 513 Birch Street, Boonton, NJ on Friday, November 30th at 11:00 am. Please join the family afterwards at Zeris Inn in Mountain Lakes to celebrate a wonderful man.
Leigh is survived by his children, Leigh Jr, and his longtime girlfriend Lisa, Deborah Crane and Jeffrey and his wife Faith, his brother, Charles “Pat” Gorman; and his five loving grandchildren whom he adored, Cassidy, Erin, Chance, Flynn and Birch.
The family would like to thank Leigh’s childhood friends who put together monthly Boonton reunion luncheons in his honor.
