Obituary of Dr. Alvin O. Gunneson
Dr. Alvin O. Gunneson, 82, of Lacey Twp., NJ, formerly of Jefferson Twp. & Mountain Lakes, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018.
Memorial Visitation will be held at the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Avenue, Boonton, NJ on Friday, June 8th from 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at the Montville Methodist Church, 29 Whitehall Road, Towaco, NJ on Saturday, June 9th at 1:30 pm. Born in Hassleholm, Sweden to Edward and Ruth Gunneson, Al was raised in Gloversville, NY and lived in Jefferson Twp. & Mountain Lakes before retiring in Lacey Twp.
Al served in peacetime for 4 years with the US Air Force.
Dr. Gunneson graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees. He also earned a PhD in International Business and Finance from Pace University.
After a successful career he retired as the CEO of Gunneson Group International in Mount Olive, NJ.
He was active in municipal and county government; he was President of the Town Council in Jefferson Twp. and a Morris County Freeholder.
Al was a member of the Shriners and Republican Club in Jefferson and Lacey Twps.
His favorite past times were road trips, boating and spending time in nature. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and his Goldendoodle, Ella.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Berta); children and their spouses, Leslie & Ivan Willson, Alan & Jan Gunneson and Lauren & Ben White; grandchildren, Max & Andrew Gunneson and Ryan Snouffer.
