I first met Mrs. Bruce during our freshman year of college at Penn State. I will always remember when her and Mr. Bruce invited me to dinner. When I opened the menu, I was a bit taken a back at the prices. Mrs. Bruce told me to get whatever I wanted because she said Kari and I deserved a good meal. We ate like kings that night!
Although I didn't know Mrs. Bruce well, I have been touched by her kindness and strong values through Kari. Sending love to the family.

Dear Michael and Family,
We were very sad to hear about Vickie's passing away. We have fond memories of times we did spend together. She was also a great teacher who dedicated her time to the needs of children! We will keep your family in prayer during this time. We will pray too that many of your family and friends will surround will you and bring your family comfort.
Love from, Ilene and Tom Dietrich

My sincere condolences to the Bruce family. Mrs Bruce was an amazing and exceptional teacher. She was my son's teacher. She had the ability to make a parent feel like their child was her most important concern. She was a rare and special teacher. She will be sorely missed by so many.

I am so sorry that the earth has lost this gentle soul and brilliant teacher. My daughter was in her kindergarten class fifteen years ago. The little girl was very clever and Mrs Bruce told us that she behaved beautifully in her class. Well, we were so proud, but the fact was that at home his little angel had many temper tantrums and could be very naughty. This was before the internet where I could google what to do about temper tantrums or google any help. One day when the little ange was particularly naughty and I couldn't get her on the school bus, poor me drove her to school, and took her by the hand into Mrs Bruce's class. I was in tears and very pregnant to boot. Mrs Bruce became my savior. She said she is a partner with me. And she can help me with her behavior at home. She said it will take six weeks for the little angel to break her bad behaviors. My little girl had homework every night to be good to her mommy. Would you believe it, the tantrums stopped? My life improved dramatically! My daughter is now a college junior. I will forever be thankful to Mrs Bruce for her help with my parenting. God keep her precious soul. She was a treasure!

We will miss you, Vickie! I remember so many fun times as a child with you and our families. I love the stories about the fish tank you got for my crib (with real fish swimming in it!) and the ice cream cone that landed in my belly button while riding in your convertible MG. I'll never forget the time I spent over the summer in Mountain Lakes. Your were so dedicated to the children you taught and to your family. I'm praying so many prayers for Mike and Kristi and Kari as they go through this sad time. I know that you are home with our Lord as a reward for a life well lived. I picture your dog Cricket jumping around and licking your face. Know that you were loved and made a huge positive impact on so many lives. You will be missed. Love to you and your family. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Vickie. I remember Vickie when I was a young girl growing up and I would take vacations with my sister Janet. Some of those vacations were to California where we would see Vickie and Mike. Vickie had a kind heart, was so sweet. Her smile was huge and her laugh was extremely contagious. She was a friend to many. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Cherish the fond memories you have and hold them close to your heart.

Whenever I was asked if I knew any truly happily married couples Vickie and Mike immediately came to mind. I always delighted in sharing their adventures and their love of each other and life. There was a real sweetness in their generosity in sharing their "story." They did that with abundant joy in the warm perimeter of their home where they refularly welcomed friends and family for their regular gatherings. They seemed to celebrate everything.....and graciously open their celebration to those they loved.
It is an inconceivable loss to think of our world without Vickie.
The poet, Mary Oliver expressed a reality that all of us are called upon to embrace. In her poem, "In Blackwater Woods, " she wrote:
To live in this world
you must be able to do three things:
To love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go.
Vickie's positive energy was a lovely life force. Her generous spirit gave life to many.
That spirit will never die. It lives on in the beautiful lives she nourished and loved.
It is an understatement to say that she will be missed.
My heart embraces the unimaginable grief of Mike and Krist and Kari. and those they love and call family.

My sincere condolences and prayers are offered to Vicki's family. I taught with Vicki at Cedar Hill and she was a wonderful, caring person. She made each and every student feel special. I also know how much she loved her husband and children. She was so proud of all their accomplishments. She will be missed dearly but my memories of her will keep her spirit alive.
