Obituary of Albert Russell Van Riper

Albert Russell "Russ" Van Riper, Jr., of Montville, NJ, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. He was 92. Born in Caldwell, NJ to Albert and Anna Van Riper, Russell was a lifelong resident of Montville. Mr. Van Riper was a farmer and the founder of A.R. Van Riper, Jr., Inc., incorporated in 1963, a school bus operation in Montville for many years. Mr. Van Riper proudly served as a Sergeant in the US Army during World War II in the European Theatre. Russell was a longtime active member of the Montville Reformed Church where he served as an ordained Elder and Deacon and President of the Cemetery Committee. An active member of the Montville Community he was a founding member of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Board of Education and Secretary of the Board of Education and Municipal Township Committee Member. Russ was a director of the Newark Farmer's Market. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Vivian (Thelin), in 2009. Surviving are his devoted children, Albert R., III of Montville; a daughter, Melney Reich and her husband Timothy of Leesport, PA; a loving sister, Charlene Mead; five beloved grandchildren, Jessica Madeira, Lindsey Gebhart, Rusty, Ashley and Ali Van Riper; two cherished great grandchildren, Griffin and Hannah. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Montville Reformed Church, Church Lane, Montville with interment to follow at the church cemetery.
