Emily S. Tompkins Obituary

MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP---Emily (Sabold) Tompkins died Friday, September 3, 2010 at her home following a brief illness. She was 78.



Born in Newark, she lived in Lake Hiawatha for 16 years before moving to Montville 37 years ago.



Mrs. Tompkins was the chairman of the nursing education department at Monmouth University, Long Branch for 6 years before retiring in 1999. While there, she developed the master's nursing program at the university.



She received her R.N. degree from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, Newark in 1951. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Fairleigh-Dickinson University and her master's and doctoral degrees in nursing education from New York University in 1979. She also studied to be a nurse practitioner.



She served, for many years, on the Board of Directors of the March of Dimes of New Jersey.



Her husband, Donald P. Tompkins died in December of last year.



She is survived by four daughters, Cynthia J. Tompkins of Florham Park, Holly T. Carlsen and her husband Wayne of Athens, OH, Amy G. Tompkins of Montville and Donna T. Daniel and her husband Dennis of Creedmoor, NC; a sister, Eleanor Reich and her husband Herbert of Malibu, CA and six grandchildren, Eric, Andrew, Lee, Alease, Olivia and Henry.



Memorial services will be announced at a later date by the family.
