BOONTON---Marie G. (Woodworth) Werner died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the New Jersey Eastern Star Home, Bridgewater Township following a brief illness. She was 97.

Born in Reading, PA she lived most of her life in Boonton before moving to the Eastern Star Home in 2001.

Mrs. Werner as an insurance broker with E.B. Vreeland Agency, Boonton for many years before retiring in 1978.

She graduated from Reading, PA High School in 1930.

She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Boonton, serving as a deacon, an elder and as superintendent of the Sunday School. She was also active with the Rainbow Girls, Boonton.

Marie was a 70 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, currently with the Melchior Chapter #131, Newton.

Her husband, Lewis A., died in 1971.

She is survived by two sons, Paul A., Sr. of Lake Shawnee and Leonard J. of Flemington; a daughter, Diane H. Matalas of Newhall, CA; five grandchildren, Gregg and Terry Matalas and Paul, II, Beverly and Herle Marie Werner and a great grandson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 9th at 10:00 A.M. at the Mackey Funeral Home (mackeyfh.com), 107 Essex Ave., Boonton with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Boonton.

Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Eastern Star Services will be held at 7:30 PM.
