Obituary of John William Heurtz

John William Heurtz WWII Veteran John W. Heurtz, of Boonton Twp., NJ, passed away on Wednesday, December 04, 2013 after a brief illness. He was 94 years old. Family and friends can visit at the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Ave., Boonton, NJ 07005 on Friday, December 6th from 3-6 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Pocono Road, Mountain Lakes, NJ on Saturday, December 7th at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow the mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, E. Hanover, NJ. John was born and raised in the Vailsburg Section of Newark, NJ. He also lived in Whippany, NJ and West Palm Beach, FL before moving back to NJ in 2010. Mr. Heurtz was a Veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Corps. John was a shortstop with the Vailsburg Royals Minor League Baseball Team in his younger years. He also enjoyed all types of fishing. He worked as an engineer for 34 years with NJ Bell in Newark and East Orange, before retiring in 1980. Surviving are his devoted daughter, and her husband, Barbara and Robert MacTaggart, Sr.; loving grandchildren Maurice Lonergan, Morgan Baker and Robert MacTaggart, Jr.; cherished great grandchildren, MJ, Olivia, Harrison and London.
