Betty Ann Mackey (nee Waddington) died Friday , October 11, 2013 at Crane's Mill Health Care Center, West Caldwell following a long decline with Alzheimer's Disease. She was 87. . Born in Paterson, she lived in Roseland, Essex Fells and Mountain Lakes before moving to Boonton in 1986. She was the secretary/treasurer and co-owner of the Mackey Funeral Home, Boonton until retiring in 1986. She received her bachelor's degree in psychology from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA in 1948. Betty was a longtime volunteer at the former Riverside Hospital, Boonton Township where she was a member of Twig 25 which originated the Meals-on-Wheels program in this area and a long-time worker at the Castaway Shop for St. Clare's Hospital. She was also very active at The Community Church, Mountain Lakes, where she had served as a former treasurer, trustee and a leader of the Women's Association Group 9. She was an enthusiastic needlecrafter and was known for her handmade fisherman knit sweaters and intricate needlepoints. Her husband, Howard, died in 2009. She is survived by her four children, Dean of St. Simons Island, GA, Marty Homeijer of Boonton, David W. of Nashua, NH and Keith of Champlin, MN. Also surviving are her five cherished grandchildren, James, Matthew, Jesika, Deanna and Melissa and two beloved great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 15th at 11:00 A.M. at The Community Church, 48 Briarcliff Rd., Mountain Lakes with private entombment to follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery Mausoleum, Clifton. Friends may call on Monday from 4-7 PM only at the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Ave., Boonton, NJ. To share a memory or extend condolences, please visit www.codeymackeyfh.com.
