Obituary of Charles Arthur Peacock
Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles Arthur Peacock, of Denville, NJ, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013. Chuck was 85 years old. Family, loved ones, and friends will remember Chuck as "the best" and a true gentleman, charming, always positive, generous and inspiring. He will be joining his beloved wife of 59 years, Nancy Ann Peacock, who passed away in 2011.
Mr. Peacock grew up on a farm in Hillsdale, MI with six brothers and two sisters. Hard work, baseball, basketball, football, 4-H and the Navy all contributed to shaping his exceptional character. Just one month shy of graduating high school Chuck was accepted in the Navy V-5 Program. He entered Michigan State University and after the required 2 years of college entered flight training. In 1950 he received his wings. Chuck was a proud Veteran who served in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War, finally retiring as Captain and Commanding Officer of an S2 Squadron in Lakehurst NJ.
Children and grandchildren have also followed in his footsteps serving their country. Chuck and Nancy flew the flag every day in support of the servicemen and kept a red, white, and blue Christmas tree up year-round until all the troops return home.
Released from active duty, Chuck returned to Michigan State University with his bride and love of his life, Nancy Ann. He graduated in 1953 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and in 1957 from N.J.I.T. with an MS in Management Engineering. He was a Chief Engineer with I.T.T. World Communications in NY, NY for 31 years, retiring in 1988.
The couple raised four children in Mountain Lakes. The family often gathered at their beachfront condo in Cocoa Beach, Florida, and later at their retirement home in Williamsburg, Virginia. In recent years, the couple moved back to New Jersey to be closer to family and friends.
Surviving are his devoted children Mark Douglas Peacock and his wife, Sheila; Constance Lynn Peacock; Sueanne Sylvester and her husband, Daniel; Charles Dean Peacock and his wife, Marjorie; dear friend, Alice Anglum; loving sisters Mary Irene Clement and Betty Ann Hoffman; dear brothers Howard Dean Peacock and Kenneth Lewis Peacock. Chuck was also extremely proud of his 12 grandchildren and 3 great grand children. Chuck left a legacy to all with beautifully written memoirs of his life and a meticulously researched family tree.
Chuck and Nancy were active members of The Community Church in Mountain Lakes where a Memorial Service will be held to celebrate his life on Saturday, August 17th at 3:00 PM. The Community Church is located at 48 Briarcliff Road, Mountain Lakes. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to support the choir at the Community Church.
