MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP---Daniel J. Cavanaugh, Jr. died Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Morris View Healthcare Center, Morris Township following a long illness. He was 86. Born in Newark, he lived in Montville most of his life except for a 15 year period when he lived in Hackettstown. Mr. Cavanaugh was a construction code official in Bernards Township, NJ for 10 years before retiring in 1991. Prior to that he held a similar position in Montville Township for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a parishioner at St. Pius X Church, Montville. Daniel is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen (nee McLaughlin); two sons, Daniel J. and his wife Barbara of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and Kevin P. and his wife Jeanne of East Stroudsburg, PA; a daughter, Kathleen A. Palumbo of Boonton Township; a sister, Anna Mae O'Dowd of Hackettstown; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, December 28th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Pius X Church, Montville with interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Montclair. Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Mackey Funeral Home ( www.mackeyfh.com), 107 Essex Ave., Boonton. Memorial contributions in Daniel's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater NJ Chapter, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home
