ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP---Werner Jastrow died Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Overlook Hospital, Summit, following a brief illness. He was 77. Born in Berlin, Germany, his family escaped the holocaust, moving to Scotland, and came to this country in 1952. He lived in Boonton for 38 years before moving to Rockaway Township in 2001. Werner was a lieutenant with the Morris County Sheriff's Department for 25 years before retiring in 1994. He was also the co-owner and proprietor, with his wife, of Marlene's Music Center, Boonton from 1973-1983. Active in Masonic affairs, he was a 32nd Degree Mason, a past-master (1972 & 1987) of St. John's Lodge #1 F & AM, Mountain Lakes, a past-patron of the Mountain Lakes Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Shriner's Saalam Temple, Livingston and the Scottish Rite Consistory. He was also a past-Dad advisor for the Boonton Chapter of the Order of the DeMolay. Active in his community, Werner served on the Boonton Board of Adjustment and, for several years on the Boonton Shade Tree Commission. In addition, he was a member of the Morris County Republican Committee for 32 years. His wife, Marlene (nee Youngelson), died in 2010. He is survived by two son, John S. Jastrow and his wife, Christine of Hermitage, TN and Barry Gould and his wife, Lisa of South Plainfield; two daughters, Kathryn Davis of Long Valley and Barbara Hayes and her husband, Timothy of Boonton; a brother, Bruce Jastrow and his wife Erma of Sparta; thirteen cherished grandchildren, Shaun, Evan, Siobhan, Erin, Corey, Calum, Jessica, Ashley, Theresa, Anthony, Sarah, Christopher and Keri. Also surviving is a great grandson, Jair. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 26th at 11:00 A.M. at the Mackey Funeral Home ( www.mackeyfh.com), 107 Essex Ave., Boonton with entombment to follow at Restland Memorial Park Mausoleum, East Hanover. Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Masonic Services will be held at 7:30 P.M. Memorial contributions in Werner's name may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc., 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305.
