Obituary of Margarite A. Howard
Margarite A. Howard, 75, of Boonton, NJ, entered into the presence of the Lord on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Born in February 1950 in Chicago, IL to Mathis and Maggie (Griffo) Howard, Margarite soon moved to Indiana. She went through the South Bend School system and then to Spelman College. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.
Margarite was a workaholic. After college, she worked for the South Bend Transportation Corporation, as a member of the Grants and Planning Committee. After moving to New Jersey, she was the Housing Choice Voucher Coordinator for the Town of Boonton for many years and was known for her kindness and compassion towards her clients. Margarite truly cared about others and their wellbeing. She also was involved with the Morris County Board of Elections since 2009 and was a welcoming face at the polls.
Margarite enjoyed reading and watching true crime shows. She loved the movie The Color Purple. Margarite liked to entertain and provide good food to her company. Relationships with her family and friends were of the utmost importance and she tried to stay in touch with the people she met throughout her life.
Predeceased by her parents, and her brothers, Ernest and Madison; Margarite is survived by her sister of the heart, Sherry Sims; her good friend, Joann Newhouse; many nieces and nephews; and fellow Boontonites.
Please join together on Saturday, March 29th, in Mount Zion Baptist Church, 4 Church Rd, Boonton Township; with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00am and the service beginning at 11:00am. Private burial will follow in Pennsylvania.
