Obituary of John Abram Van Duyne, Sr.
John Abram Van Duyne, Sr. a longtime resident of Boonton, NJ, peacefully passed away at home on Monday, December 31, 2018. “He had heavenly plans to dance with the love of his life on New Year’s Eve!”
Born at home in Montville, NJ to James and Lillian (Demarest) Van Duyne, John was one of eight children.
John proudly served as a medic in the United States Army during World War II and was a true patriot. Upon his return from World War II he worked at Van Raalte Hosiery in Boonton, where he met his future bride, Carolyn Young.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. John worked as a machinist at Aircraft Radio in Boonton Township and retired from Merrimac Industries in Fairfield.
Alongside his loving family, John enjoyed cooking, camping, hunting, ice fishing, bowling, bocce ball and gardening. He was an avid NY Ranger fan. He was an active member for many years with the Randolph VFW Post 7333.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Carolyn in April of 2018, a brother, James and sisters, Isabel, Evelyn, Barbara and Patricia.
Surviving are his devoted children, John A., Jr. and his wife, Donna, David, Sr. and his wife, Linda, Allan and Carolyn Evans and her husband, James, Sr.; also ten cherished grandchildren and five adored great grandchildren; dear sister, Lillian “Sissy” Abbott and brother, Donald.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Avenue, Boonton, NJ on Friday, January 4th from 4-7 pm. A service will be held on Saturday, January 5th at 10:00 am in the funeral home. The interment will follow in Montville Reformed Church Cemetery.
