Obituary of Basil Hylton
Basil Hylton died at the age of 81 on Friday, June 1, 2018 in the Beth Israel Hospital Medical Center, Newark, NJ after a long illness.
Born in Craighead, Manchester, Jamaica on October 11, 1936, he was the son of the late Mr. Vincent and Mrs. Ina Hylton. He attended Pike School and was raised in Craighead Baptist Church. As a young man, Basil was dedicated to the church, read his bible consistently and attended church regularly. In Jamaica, he worked as a driver for over 25 years and could give anyone directions to and from any place that they wished to go in Jamaica.
32 years ago, he immigrated to America. Here he continued his driving career. His last employment in America was at The Westminster Hotel in Livingston, NJ where he worked for many years as a security guard.
Basil is survived by Patricia Hylton his wife of over 22 years. 5 children: Junior, Ava-Dawn, Phillip, Steve and Andrea. 5 step-children: Yvette, Judith, Kim, Narria and Lennox. 8 grandchildren: Abigail, Matthew, Tiffany, Jazz, Adrian, Javahon, Jaheel and Katherine. 18 step-grandchildren including Bethany, Noel, Sidney, Nathan, Zachary, etc. And, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Services Celebrating Basil’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, 4 Church Road, Boonton Township, NJ beginning with visitation from 9 – 11 am, followed by a service at 11:00 am. The interment will follow immediately at Heavenly Rest Memorial Park in East Hanover, NJ.
Basil was faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Boonton, NJ. He was a family man, very patient, kind, love the Lord as well as The Bible. He will be sincerely missed by all.
