Obituary of William Vanderyajt

William Vanderyajt, Jr., of Boonton Township, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Merry Heart of Boonton Township. He was 89 years old. Bill was a dedicated volunteer for 55 years with the Boonton Fire Department / Salvage & Rescue Company No. 1. He was honored as Grand Marshall in their 2016 Labor Day Parade. Born in Exeter, NY to William and Hendrina (Jansen) Vanderyajt, Sr., Bill lived most of his life in Boonton Township. Mr. Vanderyajt proudly served in the US Army after World War II in Germany. When he returned home he was always active in the community, especially in the lives of his children. Bill was an avid NY Yankees and Oakland Raiders Fan. Bill was a carpenter and plumber by trade and retired from the Boonton Board of Education maintenance department. Surviving are his beloved wife, Loretta (nee Sturtevant); devoted children, Michelle Onorati of Boonton Twp. and Keith Vanderyajt, Sr. and his wife, Christine, of Albrightsville, PA; loving grandsons, Keith, Jr. and James. Services to honor Mr. Vanderyajt will be held in the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Avenue, Boonton, NJ on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, with visitation from 4-7pm followed by the Boonton Fire Department Service at 7pm, prayers and concluding with Military Honors bestowed by the US Army at 8pm.
