Beloved husband, father of 7, grandfather of 12
R. Jay Conlan, 84, of Mountain Lakes, passed on 7/25/16. A celebration
of his life will be held at the Community Church of Mountain Lakes on
Saturday, 7/30/16 at 11am. Arrangements and condolences can be found

Jay was born in Sea Cliff, New York. As a youngster, he helped his dad
with their 13 beagles. He graduated from St. Paul's Prep School in
Garden City, NY where he was football captain.
He attended St. Lawrence University and graduated in 1955 with a
B.A. in Economics. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He was
a seaman on a Greek ship for a semester.
Jay served in the U.S. Army and was a Military Police Captain.
He worked in the pharmaceutical industry at Bristol-Meyers Squibb for
many years and in the pharmaceutical advertising business for both
Grey and Klemtner Advertising firms. He retired as Vice-President of Klemtner
Advertising, a subsidiary of Saatchi & Saatchi.
He was involved in boyscouting, sailing and coached water polo. He was
an avid golfer and gardener.
Jay and his wife, Dede, enjoyed traveling to many countries, especially Italy.
He truly enjoyed their last trip together, to Portugal. Jay was fluent in Spanish and Italian.
He was an active and devoted member of the Community Church of
Mountain Lakes. He was a Deacon and a choir member.
He is survived by his loving family. His wife, Dede, his 7 children
and their spouses and his 12 grandchildren.
Son Michael and wife Katie of Princeton, and their daughters, Eileen
and husband Teddy Stofer of New York City, Sheila and husband Raynor
Large of Cumberland, Maine.
Son Timothy and wife Lena of Bozeman, Montana.
Daughter Lorrie and husband Terence McCarthy and daughters Nora and
Julia of Nutley.
Daughter Kathleen Burnett and sons Kyle and Conor and daughter Olivia
of Cedar Grove.
Son James of Barcelona, Spain, daughters Gabriela and Sofia of
Morristown, and wife Claudia and daughter Carlotta, also of Barcelona.
Daughter Melissa and Thomas Silk and sons Gavin and Colin of Rockaway.
His son Jeffrey predeceased him in 2013.
