Floyd “Smitty” Smith, 86, lifelong Montville, NJ resident, passed away at home Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Born in Montville in 1939, Smitty graduated from Boonton High School in 1957. He married Gladys Sharp and together they started their new life. In 1975 they purchased NJ Industrial Sewing on Main Street in Boonton from Smitty’s boss. They ran it together for forty years, retiring in 2015.
Smitty was a lover of life, his family, and his golf game. He and Gladys had a pool out back and enjoyed having people over for parties. The kids were his priority, and he made sure he spent a lot of time with them growing up. Smitty built himself a pitch and putt course in his backyard so he could play golf at home. He also loved fixing things - he was always tinkering around the house and business. Once the grandkids came along, he enjoyed going to their dance recitals and school events.
Smitty was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gladys in 2020. He is survived by his cherished children, Thomas Smith; Caroline Smith (Sharon King); and Tammy Yaworsky (Lloyd); his former daughter-in-law, Toni Smith; his adored grandchildren, Chelsea Smith; Kayla Smith, Taylor Greene (Eric); and Cheyenne Yaworsky; his great-grandchild, Riley; and his friends and neighbors.
