She was an absolute wonderful power woman! I can never thank her enough for not only the knowledge she gave me but the confidence. I have saved lives because of her not only as a lifeguard but as a result of her teaching. She will be greatly missed. Thank you and rest peacefully Ms. Conlan.

Mrs Conlan was the hardest but fairest boss l have had over these past 50 years!!!
Trying to keep multiple teenager lifeguards in line (especially me) at multiple locations was a feat in itself, but she did it all. As my brother Pete would say, she’d make one hell of a drill sergeant in the Marine Corps. Learned many lessons about life from her, especially to keep calm, don’t panic and do your job. Mountain Lakes has lost another great one, but I assume that the man upstairs needed swim lessons from the best teacher there is.

I am so sorry for your loss. Nana was an extraordinary woman—strong, wise, and so deeply kind. I will never forget her patience teaching Rachel and myself to swim in the pool in Aruba or the powerful lesson in unconditional love she lived every day. Her memory is a true blessing. We're so sorry to hear of Dede's passing. What a central role she played for so many of us lucky enough to grow up in Mt. Lakes! She made both Birchwood and Island Beach safe, fun places to hang out hour after lazy summer hour, and she did it by running a tight ship! She also orchestrated swim lessons for hordes of little Lakers! At one point, I remember she offered lessons for adults, and my mom & Rosemary McCormack signed up. It involved snorkles somehow and in my mom's case, didn't really stick, but I remember thinking how earnest Dede was about making sure everybody can swim. A huge, impactful legacy indeed!
