Lois Westenberger (nee Tucker), 95, of Boonton Township, New Jersey, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord—and into a long-awaited reunion with her beloved husband and two sons—on Sunday, July 6, 2025. Her final days reflected the same qualities that defined her life: love, laughter, and unwavering strength.

Born on March 30, 1930, Lois grew up in Boonton Township and later married the love of her life, the late George Westenberger Jr. of Boonton. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and faith, raising eight children: George III, Susan, Robbie (predeceased), Johnny, Karen, Krissie, Shelly, and Eric (predeceased).

Lois answered to many beloved names—Lowee, Tuck, Grandma, and Mooniah, a nickname that carried such affection, she even had a custom license plate to match.

Her love for children extended beyond her own. In addition to her loving 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, Lois cared deeply for the children of her community. Following George’s passing in 1990, she channeled that nurturing spirit into her role as a lunch aid at School Street School in Boonton and a teacher’s aide at Wildwood School and Briarcliff School in Mountain Lakes, where she made a lasting impact.

Outside of work and family, Lois had a passion for reading, Broadway musicals, walking and jogging, traveling, shopping, and the joy of preparing meals for others. She was widely known for her legendary crumb coffee cake, a sweet gesture she so often delivered to those who touched her life (you were special if you got one!)—as well as her rich, comforting homemade soups.

Above all else, family was her joy and compass. Her happiest moments were spent in the presence of loved ones, sharing laughter and telling stories with her signature wit and sparkle. Lois had a gift for humor, a heart full of optimism, and a fearless honesty that made her unforgettable.

She is survived by her loving children George III (Barbara) of Boonton, Susan Bonanni of Boonton, Johnny of Wharton, Karen of Lake Hiawatha, Krissie of Boonton Township, and Shelly Errante (Pete) of Rockaway Township. She was preceded in death by her husband George Jr. in 1990, sons Robbie in 2022 and Eric (surviving wife Cindy) in 2020. In addition, she leaves behind two dear sisters, Jeanne Heinke (Brad) of Branchville and Ruth Barnish of Montville. Her brother Roy Tucker passed away in 2015.

A church service will be held at Rockaway Valley Methodist Church 42 Valley Road in Boonton Township on Friday, July 11, at 10 a.m., immediately followed by a Christian burial at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lois’ memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital—a cause close to her heart.
